History "EL CLAN"

  

     Legendary and mysterious rock band that hit the rock scene in Mexico formed in the early nineties north of Mexico City. Are distinguished by being practically the first Mexican band to enter the dark or terrero the gothic rock scene in a dark growing in our country. Members have changed several times, which has made changing the sound barrier over his career.



     They were originally a band composed of Israel Corbi on guitar, Victor Mendoza on drums, Sergio Lucano on keyboards and guitarist founder Jaime Chavez, who initially wanted to play heavy metal, they called "Midnight Blue" (name later occupied for the title of one of his songs). With no vocals are given the task of finding someone to fill that spot, and with Gustavo Pérez are nicknamed "The Beaver", who was heavily influenced by punk. So rebautizan integrate grouping and the grouping as "The Clan" (a short name and easy to learn) to enter what would be the second edition of the "Battle of the Bands" of Rockotitlán in Mexico City (15 July 1991).



     The contest in their favor in the second position and participated in the recording of the sampler that was released for sale in this year's competition (The Battle of the Bands II) where he participated with the song "The Kingdom of the Elves" and "The Bruges ". The band is supported and many comments from the press and media. It is considered by many as the first band that began and represented the dark scene of Mexico. 



     Gradually during the first couple of years began to form his reputation, as the press had already been classified as an aggressive dark band immediately became a follower audience consists of people underground culture to "dark" or " Gothic ". During these years participating in events like the festival "Band Exposicion 91" where were semifinalists. Later recorded what would become their first album, and then made a video recording of his song "The Witches". Popularized among its audience songs like "Midnight Blue", "The Witches", "The Kingdom of the Elves" and "Gargoyles" (all included in their first album), a strong tendency laden post punk, and a very lyrical fantastic, addressing themes of vampires and spirits, coupled with the vampire image Gustavo "The Beaver". Besides the bands start to increase that influenced not only the dark music, but music in the same Clan, such as Hueco, Maldoror, Las Danzas, La Concepción de la Luna, etc...


     Subsequently, in 1994 goes on sale his first album titled "No Feeling", which contains his first recordings with dark cuts and trends ranging from punk, post-punk and gothic rock, highlight the lyrics and melodies very energetic and voice hoarse and trembling style, which was well received and sold successfully. It was recorded in Mexico City by the independent company DoDo Music and distributed by Sony Music transnational company. His music video "The Witches" is delivered to the National Institute of Fine Arts where they get honorable mention for this video.



     In this first stage, the group begins its ascent into the rock scene in Mexico, playing in places like Rockotitlán, participating in charitable festivals in Ciudad Universitaria (UNAM) and alternating with bands of the time like The Castañeda, Santa Sabina, craving, among others, plus they come mingle with American bands like The Last Dance and Human Drama, do some tours inside the republic as Guadalajara, Guanajuato, Puebla, etc..



     After recording the first album, guitarist Corbi Israel leaves the group, then after the popularization of it, in 1996 Gustavo Perez longer vocalist Clan for filing in the United States, leaving the place empty, and Sergio Lucano that also leaves the project with only Jaime Chavez and Victor Mendoza as founding members. After that, new members: Hugo Grob takes place as vocalist Gustavo Perez, Raul Zavala also come as bassist and keyboardist Guillermo Clemente..



     With these new elements come to the recording of their second album, implementing some old compositions that had already made with Gustavo, this production was entitled "Keep Blowing the Anima" with mastering the famous musician of the band Johnny Indovina Human Drama and Sound Of The Blue Heart, was released in 1998 by the record label Sonic Option. In this material show a remarkable evolution, sounds closer to hard rock or gothic metal, the lyrics become much more melancholic and no longer as euphoric as the old disk, highlight the topics "Cavaría", "Fury", "The Return", "Thriller" and "hate", etc.. Subjects were admitted to the death, the sadness, the imagery of the underworld and dark poetry. They manage to maintain their level in the growing national dark scene thanks to continued playing their old songs and the similarity between the voices of Gustavo (the lead singer) and Hugo. After giving this album promotion, participated in some trailers, 1998 are a tribute to Caifanes, a trailer is titled Before we forget, which made the song "Is that why" and touring in the province disintegrate for some time in late 1999.



     In 2004 the band decided to re-arm, with virtually the same lineup from the album "Keep Blowing the Anima", performed live in parts of Mexico City, including the club "Dada X" (must for the dark scene Mexican and for people who like these trends) and the "Hard Rock Live", some of the songs from these concerts were recorded on an album that was released in 2005 under the name of "the last beat Distant", which also included the new song "Back to the Night".



     In 2006 Hugo Grob vocalist decided to leave the band, instead it is replaced by Ricardo Lassala vocalist who was craving during the nineties, and promoted with this new formation. Compose the theme "Boca del Lobo" authored by Lassala, and is included in a compilation of previously unreleased recordings of the band took the name of "Bewitched Chronology" came in 2007, a record that includes old footage of trials, never released songs and some live sessions from 1991 to 2007 under the label Discos Intolerance.



     In 2008 this same record label release the album "Nobody is better off dead", produced by Gerry Rosado, Ricardo involving Lassala vocalist and drummer Ivan Salinas, and the oldest members, Jaime Chavez and Raul Clemente Guillermo Zavala , Jaime being so far the only founding member. They were supported by some guest musicians as Jarris Margalli (Mistus, Ninot and Jaguars), Sabo Romo (Caifanes) and Alejandro Otaola (Santa Sabina and La Barranca).



     In 2009 this album is reviewed by Rolling Stone Mexico as one of the 10 best in Latin America. This same album received a featured article by journalist and writer known as Mick Mercer. Makes clear a drastic change in the group on record, has issues in both English and Spanish (plus an introduction in French), address issues such as death in the critical sense of suicide and darkest of human attitudes through history. It lets you hear a very crude rock progressive tones, and direct lyrics and visceral, "Burning Nothing", "Wormwood", "Arcadie" and "Carpe Diem" highlighted in this work, which also earned them good reviews by the even in the U.S. press, although many fans do not like so much that Lassala whoever is in front of the group. The song "Embalsámame" This album gave him first place in the Festival Macabre and scheduled by the Mexican Radio Institute.



     During this period promoted the new album in various places in the City and the interior of the country, participated in several festivals like Vive Latino, members change again, as keyboardist and bassist Josh Nebula and bassist Omar Mundo and recorded an EP in 2011 as a preview of the new album (which still do not have much progress), in this year, Ricardo Lassala part to Canada, leaving leisurely doing work that came before.


     In 2011 released an EP experimental including only two songs "In my book and analgesics, the latter is in English. It announces a concert to remember the first album of the band ("without feeling" of 1994). It is reported that the first vocalist Gustavo Perez "The Beaver" will be part of this meeting, organized by the initiative of guitarist Jaime Chavez.



     In 2012 decided to hold a tribute to the first album "Without feeling" event that takes place in one of the most popular clubs in Mexico City "Rock and Rock", given voice to Gustavo Perez "The Beaver", guitar Jaime Chavez , on bass Omar Mundo Zu, keyboard and synthesizer Josh Nébula, battery Germán Quintero, keyboard and piano Hugo Ridderström, after recording this album live on tour throughout Mexico. Later on this tour with the British band alternated "The Mission" at the World Trade Center in Mexico City.



     What at first was thought of as a single concert, became a kind of tour that included several places as Pasagüero DF, Mexico State Club 27, Puebla, Guanajuato and Guadalajara.



     During the first concert of the "Tribute Without Feeling" recorded a live album, containing in the order the songs on the album are original, with the exception of other topics: "Acid", "Jackal" (or Jackal as known in the early years of the band). It plans to launch a DVD with the first tribute concert.



     The 2013 had a good start to the year performing at the Atlantic Club in Mexico City Mexico City. Later in March are invited to participate in the Manzanillo Fest, where the audience received them in an extraordinary way. They are currently in the process of recording a new album and plans to tour in the United States of America and Europe.



     The clan has been considered in the Mexican music scene as an underground band that transforms and adapts to the challenges of time and generations, without losing the essence of his music and unique performance. It is a rock band direct, visceral, hard, rough, mysterious, sad and almost always dark in nature.





Influences



     His influences have had are Bauhaus, Peter Murphy, Sex Pistols, Joy Division, Nina Hagen, Sisters of Mercy, Nosferatu and David Bowie.





Performance



     About the performance that takes inspiration from Gustavo Perez (Castor), his performance is inspired by everything about magic, mystery, fantasy, all that humanity holds inside, trying to give life shows through accessories such as candles, incense, fire, chains and goblins.
